Some football books should never have been written, this one should be read by all spurs fans. Thanks for the memories and maybe just maybe again? One day.

It gives me great pleasure to write the foreword for ‘The 1960/1961 Spurs Quiz Book’. As a Spurs fan I’ve always thought of myself as very privileged to have a couple of direct, and very important links, to the magnificent sporting achievement of that brilliant team. Firstly, my maternal grandfather was Harry Evans, who as Assistant Manager to Bill Nicholson played a vital supporting role behind the scenes. Secondly, and centre stage, was my father John White, the Ghost of White Hart Lane. In his superb book ‘Spurs-The Double,’ Julian Holland describes my dad as ‘the second most important factor in bringing the first ‘double’ to White Hart Lane’. The first he attributes to the ‘genius and intent ambition of Danny Blanchflower’.
In the summer of 1960 when asked by journalists about his expectations for the upcoming season, Danny Blanchflower had replied “We’ve got a good side here, we will win the double”. At the time very few people truly believed that winning the FA Cup and League in the same season would ever be done. However, less than 10 months later Danny was proved right, as at Wembley, Spurs lifted the FA Cup to become the first team in the 20th Century to achieve ‘the impossible’, and complete ‘The Double’.
That 1960-61 season remains by far the finest season in the long, and glorious history of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. The names of the players from that record breaking season, have become immortalized as true legends who will forever hold a special, and unique place in the Pantheon of football history. Maybe the last words, as ever, should belong to Danny who later described it as “a season of victory and crowds, a season for Tottenham Hotspur and football to remember”. Remember it we certainly will.
With its carefully crafted questions ‘The 1960/1961 Spurs Quiz Book’ by Chris Cowlin is a must for any Spurs fan. The questions and the answers contained within, highlight some of the amazing facts and figures established by an outstanding team, in that truly outstanding season. I would wholeheartedly recommend this entertaining, educational, and sometimes downright frustrating book. And, as they say on the terraces “If you know your history…”

I hate quizzes because I am useless and my wife always shows me up! I would enjoy reading this book as it would put me one up on her as she hates football.
