About the Author: Kim Kimber is a freelance writer and editor with several years’ experience in print and online journalism and is best known in the Southend area as the former Editor of local parenting magazine Step Ahead. Studying for her BA (Hons) degree in English and History at Manchester Metropolitan University sparked a keen interest in local history and Kim has published many articles about Southend and some of the characters who live there.
Kim was born and grew up in a suburb of Southend-on-Sea and, after several years living and working in London, she returned to the area in 1998 where she continues to reside with her husband and three children.
