1. How do I start?

Prepare a double-spaced 'hard copy' of the manuscript of the work, ensuring that it is complete prior to submission. We will also accept a copy in Microsoft Word format on disk or CD. File types that can be accepted are .TXT, .DOC and .RTF. It would also be helpful if you could provide a word count. NB: We DO NOT accept submissions via e-mail.

2. How do I submit my manuscript?

Complete a submission form: Submission Form, which can either be accessed and printed off by clicking on the link provided or obtained directly from Apex Publishing Ltd, and send it together with your manuscript to:

NB: There is no charge for reading your manuscript.

3. How long will it take before I receive a decision on my manuscript?

We will send you a decision on your manuscript within 10-14 working days, this will be via Royal Mail or e-mail.

4. What type of work do you publish?

We publish works on a wide range of subjects, including both fiction and non-fiction, although our main focus is on real-life stories, biographies, sport, entertainment and lifestyle and true crime.

5. What happens when I sign the contract?

After signing the contract production of the work begins. Click here to see an overview of the subsequent production process.

6. How long will it take for my book to be published?

The timescale is different for every book. A production schedule will be prepared and you will be advised of key dates. On average, 6 to 8 months from start to finish.

7. Do you publish anything?

No. We have a reputation to think of. However, we will try our best to improve the presentation of the manuscript. We will not consider publishing work that is libellous or work that will break the law. If you are unsure please contact us:

8. How do I copyright my book?

The original material is automatically copyrighted in the United Kingdom.

9. What about the cover design?

The cover design for the book is a very important sales tool. Our designers will come up with suitable ideas.

10. Can I include pictures and/or diagrams?

Yes. Please provide hard copies and files on disk when submitting t he manuscript. However, please be aware that the inclusion of photographs and illustrations will incur additional publishing costs in terms of sub-publishing.

11. How will my book be promoted?

Every book has a promotion schedule. Apex Publishing Ltd provides advance information sheets and flyers to specialist mailing lists.
Apex Publishing Ltd also provides the author with advertisements and flyers and ensures their placement according to the author's wishes.  The author will be given 500 black and white flyers and 200 colour.  The author is responsible for the costs should they require any additional promotional material.

12. What about my royalties?

Authors receive royalties on all books that are sold, initially amounting to 20% of all money received from book sales.

13. When will I receive my royalties?

Author royalties are paid twice a year: at the end of June and December.

14. What if I find spelling errors after printing?

It is very common to find spelling errors in published books. The publishing industry standard is set at 12 errors being acceptable in a published book.
If you find any errors in your book, please write to us stating the page number and line number and they will be corrected immediately for reprints.
