Prepare a double-spaced 'hard copy' of the manuscript of the work, ensuring that it is complete prior to submission. We will also accept a copy in Microsoft Word format on disk or CD. File types that can be accepted are .TXT, .DOC and .RTF. It would also be helpful if you could provide a word count. NB: We DO NOT accept submissions via e-mail.
Complete a submission form: Submission Form, which can either be accessed and printed off by clicking on the link provided or obtained directly from Apex Publishing Ltd, and send it together with your manuscript to:
Apex Publishing Ltd, PO Box 7086, Clacton on Sea, Essex, CO15 5WN, United Kingdom.
NB: There is no charge for reading your manuscript.
For more information, please contact our Production Manager, Chris Cowlin:
We will send you a decision on your manuscript within 10-14 working days, this will be via Royal Mail or e-mail.
We publish works on a wide range of subjects, including both fiction and non-fiction, poetry, short stories and children's books, although our main focus is on real-life stories, autobiographies, biographies, memoirs, history, sport, entertainment and lifestyle.
Once a decision has been made on the manuscript, details are sent in the form of an ‘offer’ that contains a breakdown of costs. Each book is evaluated separately, as each is a unique work. The cost will vary depending on a number of factors, such as size of manuscript, amount of editing required and the number/type of illustrations or photographs to be included.
We offer a flexible instalment plan. This is based on the four stages of production which are as follows:
1) First instalment when signing contract;
2) Second instalment when approving the copy-editing;
3) Third instalment when approving typesetting/page layout; and
4) Final instalment when the book is ready to be printed.
After signing the contract production of the work begins. Click here to see an overview of the subsequent production process.
The timescale is different for every book. A production schedule will be prepared and you will be advised of key dates. On average, 6 months from start to finish.
No. We have a reputation to think of. However, we will try our best to improve the presentation of the manuscript. We will not consider publishing work that is libellous or work that will break the law. If you are unsure please contact us: mail@apexpublishing.co.uk
The original material is automatically copyrighted in the United Kingdom. For more information please see: www.copyrightservice.co.uk
The cover design for the book is a very important sales tool. Our designers will come up with suitable ideas.
Yes. Please provide hard copies and files on disk when submitting the manuscript. However, please be aware that the inclusion of photographs and illustrations will incur additional publishing costs in terms of sub-publishing.
Every book has a promotion schedule. Apex Publishing Ltd provides advance information sheets and flyers to specialist mailing lists.
Apex Publishing Ltd also provides the author with advertisements and flyers and ensures their placement according to the author's wishes. The author will be given 50 black and white flyers and 20 colour. The author is responsible for the costs should they require any additional promotional material. For an overview of the wide-ranging marketing mechanisms used, click here.
For more information please contact our Marketing and Sales Manager, Jackie Bright:
Authors receive royalties on all books that are sold, initially amounting to 30% of all money received from book sales. If authors who have followed the self-publishing option recover their full investment, that percentage will subsequently be reduced to 20%. This reduction is due to the fact that as publishers we have to cost-inherent obligations in terms of financing reprints, continued promotion and distribution of the book.
NB: We must emphasise that there are no guarantees that the royalties received will fully cover the financial outlay made by self-publishing authors. It is also unlikely that they will recover their full investment.
Author royalties are paid twice a year: at the end of June and December.
It is very common to find spelling errors in published books. The publishing industry standard is set at 12 errors being acceptable in a published book.
If you find any errors in your book, please write to us stating the page number and line number and they will be corrected immediately for reprints
